Chemomics-2021

Chemomics-2021

The second edition of the Chemomics school took place from March 15 to 18, 2021 in Sète, France. This school, organized by members of the scientific communities Metabohub (W4M) and Chemoocs / Chemhouse (Chemflow) with the continuing education department of INRAE Montpellier. These two fields of application which are metabolomics and chemometrics form two different communities with common points. The objective of this second edition is to continue to bring these two communities closer together. Thus, the aspects of “discovery”, “discussion” and “participation of all” were at the heart of this school based on the pedagogical principle of the barcamp, or unconference, which takes the form of participatory workshop-events where the content and deliverables are provided by the participants and their activities.

Four half-days are each devoted to one of the following topics, with at least two facilitators per topic:
- MB4CHEM, a multi-table tool with Mohamed Hanafi and Marie Tremblay-Franco
- OPLS-DA with Mélanie Pétéra and Jean-Claude Boulet
- model validation with Benoit Jaillais and Marion Brandolini-Bunlon
- temporal components with Mohamed Hanafi and Julien Boccard

Participants decide on the program for two half-days by selecting 4 themes from the following:
-> benchmarks for extracting mz-TR (features) produced in HRMS
-> chemo VS metabo data: format comparison
-> W4M and Chemflow workflow, data format preprocessing
-> cross-testing of metabo-chemo practices
-> benchmarks for data normalization methods
-> processing without a priori, normalization
-> filtering, noise evaluation
-> variable selection
-> taking step back with stats; stats or? what? how?

Due to health conditions, we have chosen distance learning.

This school brought together 76 doctoral participants, researchers, engineers from institutes and people from private companies.
